We all
know that the employment or job vacancy in our country is very low. So the alternative option is seek employment
out of Nepal. This employment trend did
not start from recruitment of Nepal Manpower force to the Gulf Countries in the
eighties when there was almost negligible number of recruitment agencies inNepal. Actually there is no record from
when manpower from Nepal started going to India for Employment as tea garden
workers, night watch man, cleaners and kitchen staff. But this trend of
employment of Nepal manpower still continues till today with no record of how
many are employed in Nepal. The British
army did start recruitment of the brave Nepali since 1815.
The Manpower supply from Nepal is going on for a long time. For India, we do not have actual statistics of how many have gone or are going. However after 1985, the Government of Nepal established the Foreign Employment act and rules and regulations for the recruitment of Nepal Manpower to the various Gulf Countries
though since we have the Foreign Employment act since 1985, we still hear a lot of the Manpower supply from Nepal facing problems and some even ending in death. So it makes us wonder if this recruitment of Manpower from Nepal really worth it? You hear in the news that group of workers being sent back from the International airport, workers not being paid the agreed salary and made to work for 12-13 hour a day with no overtime, mistreatment of workers by the employer or the company they have been recruited.
Even after we have the agreement with the foreign ministries of various country and our country, contracts and agreements attested by the respective country’s Chamber of Commerce and Foreign affairs, such problems are still occurring.

When we look into the matter, most of the common reasons, why such
problem is faced by the Manpower supply from Nepal is that mostly the agents
from other countries who have given the “demand” are not honest. They are not from the employing country, but
neighboring countries like India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Another reason is that our own Manpower from
Nepal seeks employment in the countries where the Government of Nepal does not
give permission for employment.Yet many seek employment to these countries as
the salary scale is much higher than that of the country the government of
Nepal gives permission for. Another main
reason is that the sub agents who collect workers from the villages do not give
correct information that the office has given them. To collect workers and to “get the commission”
the sub agents normally exaggerate that salary scale.
It is not that the Government of Nepal or the Nepal Foreign employment agency association is not trying to eradicate this problem. They have done a lot of media awareness campaigns, open offices where they can get first hand information not depending on cheating and dishonest sub agents.
So the question is,
are the candidates who are going to foreign employment naiveand unaware or are
they really played and fooled by sub agents and manpower supply offices?
